Mortal Crescents shines as a vibrant beacon of hope and knowledge in Uganda. We are more than an initiative—we are a movement, a kaleidoscope of stories, art, science, and empowerment. Our mission? To illuminate the life-changing magic of knowing your Haemoglobin Genotype and to guide you toward a brighter, healthier tomorrow.
Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) is a genetic disorder in which the body creates crescent shaped red blood cells. This condition affects flow of blood in cells and oxygen to organs of the body as sickle cells get stuck in small blood vessels, instigating painful episodes. SCD comes about when two altered haemoglobin genes, one from each parent form in a foetus.
Sickle Cell Disease—some have heard its name, but how many truly know their own Haemoglobin Genotype? Are you a warrior? Are you a carrier of the trait? Why does it exist? What are the whispers of its implications for your health? Mortal Crescents is here to weave these answers into the tapestry of your understanding, to decode the mysteries, and to equip you with the knowledge to improve your health narrative. Together, let’s celebrate every genotype, every story, every crescent of life!
